This link gives a good over view of teen drama in its realistic state. It looks at the types of teen dramas which have been produced in different countries also focusing on the casting and locations, but one main point that crops in on this link shows the history throughout the teen drama genre. It goes into great depth on how other genres contain teens to create a hybrid genre.

TV Drama Research:

HollyOaks- This is a teen TV drama which has been going since 1995 on channel 4 and is based around students and teenagers who live the steriotipical life of teenagers which is drinking, using drugs, fighting and conflict between other characters. As the main characters are teenagers the programme is focused on teen troubles as they are surounded by people who get in there way like parents and other people of there age. Most of the story lines are based upon serious realistic events which can happen in the real world. Over 50 percent of all the characters are classed as being young (youths) however older characters are added to the scenes to make it afluent for the drama and tension build so conflict eventually spread (they are like a spark).

Skins- This again is a teen drama which is the following of a set of teenagers who live in Bristol so its not only a teen drama its a English teen drama. Again the main points of drama are icluded to create conflict such as signs of homosexuality, narcissism, dysfunctional families, absent parents, personality disorders, post traumatic stress, substance abuse, anorexia, underage sex, teenage pregnancy, sexual abuse, autism, and death which are all social issues that occur in teenage life.

This link will take you to the guardian website (the film section) where there is a article wrote by Angela Jain. She tells us a little bit about various TV channel budgets however she gets onto the teen TV drama Skins and looks at the target audience by say giving various figures etc, the quote below shows exactly what she says
E4, meanwhile, has outgunned BBC3 despite a smaller budget. The teen drama Skins, a story of supercool Bristol college kids, is E4's most popular homegrown show to date, with a peak audience of 1.8 million, and it took home the audience prize, voted for by viewers, at this year's Bafta TV awards.

Skins, produced by Company Pictures, has been a hit with both critics and viewers and is also notable for championing a new generation of young scriptwriters and for its innovative use of the web.

The drama built a huge following online, premiering episodes on E4.com and MySpace. It also took big risks, dumping the entire cast between the second and third series. Jain described it as "completely channel-defining".

Film Teenage Drama Research:

•'Thirteen' plot Summary- This film is a very controversial drama as it is focused on a female character who is 13 years old called 'Tracy Freeland', she is the type of person who is not popular at school, she just likes to fit in, she is an A grade student and likes to be a sensible person (this could be seen as a steriotype of a geek), however this soon changes as she becomes friends with another 13 year old female character called 'Evie Zamora', she is the total opposite of 'Tracy' so this is seen as binary opposition, she likes to take drugs and steel, all she is interested in is boys and sex and likes to commit crimes like steeling but most off all she likes to look the best and she is the most popular girl in the school. As the two girls become best fiends 'Evie' leads 'Tracy' in the direction on her life and encourages her to stell, take drugs and have sex, so 'Tracy' is easily lead and becomes a totally different person not just in her personality but how she looks (mise-en-scene) as she starts to dress different and gets percings all over her body. This has a major affect on 'Tracy's' life as she has trouble with her family especially her mother as she thinks 'Evie' is a bad influence and has made her a bad person, 'Tracy' also losses her old friends and falls out with her teachers, however her mother finds it hard to save her.

•'Thirteen Key Points'-

•Thetitles used are black and white which signifies the documentary aspect as in a way t does show a documentary of part of a teenagers life and also it may signify a low budget.
•Drama and conflict is created in some different ways which again relates to teenagers exsperimenting with drugs and money etc. The conflict is drawn through by the drama of the drugs etc as there is tension between adult hood (parents) and the teenage life style.
•The editing is not fast all the way through however there are some points where fast pace editing is used which shows that it is for the younger audience.
•This film as it is a teenage drama there is the two sides to the females and males as part of the narrative is based on sexual relationships which is commonly used in any type of teenage texts.
•The development of the film takes you from a point of view of a real teenagers life giving the audience an experience but also distributing the fact that teenagers do the things they do for a reason.

•'Pretty in Pink'- This film has a major intertextual reference with our film as this is based around teens where drama occurs, also it is based around a love triangle aspect as there is a central female character who is not so popular and one particular boy has a crush on her but she meets a popular guy who is rich. the is so much like our film as the girl is stuck inbetween two male characters which creates drama as the female character has to chose as the boy create the drama and conflict over her.

•'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'- This film is about a teenage boy who takes the day off school and decides to meet up with his friends however he stumbles across a slight problem as his friend persuades them to take his Dad's Ferrari out and pick another person out of school, however it anoys people around hime as they know he scives school and does things which he should'nt be doing at all, but in his parents eyes he is the perfect son.

•'Sixteen Candles'- This film also has some intertextual reference with my film as it is based around a relationship between two boys and one girl. Her sister is getting married in the film and her paerents forget about he 16th birthday and it takes you on a journey through a young womens life so in a way its like a documentary of her life which i found this out when exploring the codes and conventions of short film and dramas.
