Initial Proposal

Here is my Initial Proposal which is my idea which i have then made an anamatic which is on a different posting. Below is the the idea giving the basic narrative concept which the characters and locations:

Characters-

•One male called Max aged 18 years old who goes to university and lives at home.
•One female who is anonymous aged 18 years old.

Plot and camera angles-

•It starts with Max walking down a backstreet alley, using a long shot, but cut each shot as he gets closer towards the camera so it seems that time goes faster.
•Then as the character Max gets closer towards the camera it becomes an extreme close up of his eyes.
•Then the screens will split into two halves and the camera will zoom out quickly to a normal close up.
•The screens will be split all the way through from now onwards until the end.
•Using a point of view shot Max starts to walk towards the end of the alley way and suddenly stops.
•Using the point of view shot still to emphasize how the character is acting the camera will zoom in towards the girl across the street from the alley way as though the character is wearing binoculars.
•Then the camera angle would change to an over the shoulder shot looking towards the girl as she walks away from the cash point towards the alley way.
•At this point the two screens change as they are no longer the exact same (replication), as one off them starts to dim in the lighting and goes very dark and creates a deep mood, but the other stays normal.
•Using the point of view shot the girl gets closer towards the alley way using the tracking method.
•Still using the same shots tracking the girl as she walks past Max she drops her purse onto the floor.
•Each of the screens zoom into the purse straight away, the screen which is darker also uses a dutch angle to show something may go wrong.
•At this point the dark gloomy screen pauses and still zoomed in on the purse on the normal screen there is a voice over which is Max’s voice telling him to help the girl by picking her purse up for her, then the normal screen pauses and the dark gloomy one goes back into play, however the other screen which is dark has his voice over which is much sharper saying steel the purse and run.
•Then the screens go back into play and they follow the guide which the voice over has said.
•So the normal screen Max picks the purse up and gives it to the lady using a allow angle shot which shows him walk around the corner out of the alley way, but on the dark gloomy screen Max picks up the purse and runs away using a long shot also keeping track on him as he runs off around out of the alley way.
•Then as both screens fade into the exact same time, on the normal screen we see Max sat in his bedroom on his laptop (happy) using a medium shot.
•However on the dark gloomy screen we see Max sat in a corner in his room with his head between his legs (sad) with the TV on but on a fuzzy channel using a high angle shot from the other side of the room.
•Finally I will edit it so the two screens combine and there is a close up of Max’s face and just says ‘Well, I did everything I could’. This is the twist.
•Then the screen will go black and a deep mellow tune will play which I will create and the title will appear on screen in a white serif font.

Target Audience-

•The target audience for this short film would be aimed at the youth audience aged 15 to 35.
•This film in particular is aimed at this age range because it is about a person who is aged within the range (18 years old), also the fact of the narrative as it is about an illness which affects the character which sparks drama which the target audience for this short film loves to see.
•It is aimed at both genders as there is a male character and female character also because of the drama issue which is provided within the short film itself and the narrative is about a real life process which some people may go through.
•It would not be suitable for under the age of 15 years because it shows bad examples and may perceive the wrong image to a child, also the text is quite complex to understand. It wouldn’t appeal to the older generation as it contains young characters and the story line is hard to understand and there’s a variety of shots with some fast pace editing involved.
•It would appeal to any kind off ethnic groups, even though there are no Caucasian characters.
•The type of socio economic class which this film would appeal to would be C1C2DE audience (upper-middle class, lower-middle class and working-class) because it involves real life events which may occur and it is linked with the social realist aspect, also there are no big stars involved to attract the AB’s.
•It would appeal to the English nationality because all the dialogue in the film is English and the setting is in England however it may attract other nationalities as the narrative towards the character can happen to anyone. However it would mostly appeal to the UK audience as it has the social realist aspect linked into it.
•I would expect the audience to this film to be fans of other short films, however mainly social realist texts (real things that can happen), just like ‘This Is England’.
•Looking at the Psycho graphic Profile I think the audience who would watch my film would vary what type of music and TV they watch etc as anyone stereotype can watch it.
•Lastly it would appeal to both sexes as there are no counter types, and the pink or blue pound wouldn’t be drawn towards this media text.
